Cultural Connections is a four-week class that uses Houston's best cultural resources as a base for learning and inquiry. The students will visit at least four of the following institutions:

Houston Museum of Natural Science

Holocaust Museum

Museum of Fine Arts Houston

Houston Center for Contemporary Craft

The Menil Collection

Buffalo Soldiers Museum

Classes will meet Monday through Wednesday. On these days students will prepare for their Thursday field trip. To prepare students will read history and literature relevant to the week's "cultural connection." For example, in preparation for the trip to the Holocaust Museum, students will learn about World War II, the rise of Adolf Hitler, and the treatment of Jewish people in Nazi-occupied Europe. Students will also read selections from The Diary of Anne Frank. Along with studying history and literature, students will practice expressing their ideas in writing. This course will also feature a vocabulary component tied to the weekly subject.

To ensure a rich learning experience, all trips to museums will include guided tours arranged by the teacher, and will require students to fill out information and study guides.
